We have made it our mission to expand the range of free events with exciting speakers.

L8 birds helps you to broaden your horizons, to get in contact with other interested people and to get inspired by our international speakers.

* Who is we? - We are the 8SELECT GmbH, an IT Software Company based in the TechBase in Regensburg. And part of our daily life is to catch up with the newest technologies. Since we want to learn from the best, we are going to invite specialists who are open to share their knowledge with us. If you like our idea we are happy to welcome you to our new event series!

March 12, 2020: Second L8 birds tech talk

Topic: "The one right way to do microfrontends - two opinions"

When people started talking about microservices, what they meant was splitting up big things into little things in every part of your application. What really happened was, however, that the splitting happened mostly on the backend. The frontend of the application has remained a large, monolithic ball of mud for the majority of software projects we have seen. Only recently people have realized that the benefits of microservices can apply to frontend development as well. Being independent, as we all know, can improve the pace of delivery and the happiness of the developers. As always, there is only one true way to achieve microfrontends, and Mario and Matthias have found them all.
In the following two sessions we want to show you opposite approaches and outline the advantages and disadvantages, helping you understand which one might be the best fit for your project.

What prior knowledge do you need to be able to follow the content?

Basic understanding of frontend development, and struggles of working on them with more than one team.

About

Matthias was co-founder of two web companies, worked at Microsoft, AutoScout24 and 1&1 as Developer, Business Engineer and Manager before he joined ThoughtWorks as Consultant. His main interests Continuous Delivery, DevOps, software development, agile and self organised teams, all of which he tried to establish at each of those milestones - not always successful but never without learning something new.

Mario develops software for a living. Then he goes home and continues reading about software because he just cannot get enough.
At some point, somebody thought it was a good idea to make him the technical lead of an agile team. He quickly discovered that building things himself is not the same as helping somebody else figure it out.
He learned, somewhat to his surprise, that he really enjoys sharing ideas. According to their feedback, other developers have managed to learn something from Mario. At least they don't tend to run away screaming, which is, as he thinks, a good thing.

You've missed the second L8 birds event and want to learn more about Matthias' and Mario's tech talk? You can find their whole presentation here on GitHub. By the way, we grabbed Matthias Kainer before the talk for a little interview to learn more about him and his work.
